Photos are displayed on the right, with a caption on the left.
If there is a higher res version of the photo mousing over the photo will display a magnification icon. Clicking this will display the photo above the text, the full width of the theme with the caption below.
If want a post to display this way (without clicking) tag your photo with ‘full width’. See example.
